Where To Place a Bird Feeder
You'll want to place your bird feeder in a location that is safe from cats and other predators. Make sure the bird feeder is not near a place where a cat could lie in wait, ready to pounce without the birds seeing it. A central air conditioning unit is an example of this. However, there should be some protective cover nearby to gives the birds a sense of security, such as a small tree, row of bushes etc. You could also put the bird feeder in a brushy area or make some cover for them with leaves and old trees limbs or boards. Select a place in your yard that is the most sheltered from the wind, such as the south or east side of your home. A sunny area is best, since that will make it easiest to see what kind of bird you've attracted to the bird feeder.
You should clean the bird feeder every few months or so. Wash it with soap and water and clean up any seed hull mess on the ground. The seed hulls aren't good for the lawn and can spread disease to birds. Before you refill the bird feeder, makes sure it's completely dry so that seeds to do not sprout or begin to grow bacteria.
